Exam pattern
| Stage | Marks | Qualifying bar |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 1: written test, 2 hours | 100 | 60% (50% for SC/ST) |

Phase 1 syllabus
The High Court lists five areas: general knowledge, general English, current affairs, aptitude, and computer science and allied matters. It does not give a topic list or a section-wise split. Plan for all five areas, and give the most time to computer science, since it is your own subject and the easiest marks to protect.
- Computer science: programming basics, data structures, operating systems, DBMS and SQL, networks, computer organisation, and everyday hardware and software knowledge.
- General English: grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and error spotting.
- Aptitude: percentage, ratio, time and work, simple and compound interest, averages.
- General knowledge and current affairs: Tripura first, then India, for the last 6 months.
Pro tipThe computer science list above is our reading of what "computer science and allied matters" can cover. The High Court has not published a topic list, so confirm any change on thc.nic.in.
Phase 2: viva and practical test
The practical test is a hands-on demonstration on software and hardware. You need 70%, which is higher than the 60% for the written test. Practise on a real computer: install an operating system, set up a network, fix common hardware faults, use spreadsheets and word processors, and explain what you are doing in simple words.
A simple plan
- Weeks 1–4: computer science fundamentals, one subject at a time, with questions after each topic.
- Weeks 5–6: English, aptitude and Tripura GK.
- Weeks 7–8: full mocks, and the practical tasks above on a real machine.
- After Phase 1: spend all your time on viva answers and the practical test.
