The Tripura Forest Department is recruiting 104 Foresters (Group-C, non-gazetted) in Level-7 of the Tripura State Pay Matrix 2018 (Rs. 5,700–24,000, Grade Pay Rs. 2,200). The minimum qualification is Higher Secondary (+2), with a Permanent Resident Certificate of Tripura. Selection is 85% written exam and 15% interview: 170 written marks (Maths 20, English 20, General Knowledge 100, Science 30, at Class 10 level) and a 30-mark interview, plus a 100-mark Bengali or Kokborok paper that only needs 40%. Those who clear the written cut-off face a physical standards check and a walking test — 25 km for men and 16 km for women within four hours — and a medical.

Tripura Forester rules worth knowing

Straight from the notification. Each one changes how you prepare or how you sit the paper.

Science is 30 marks, only in Forester
Forester has a 30-mark Class 10 Science section that Forest Guard does not. Physics, chemistry and biology at Class 10 level carry more marks than Maths (20) or English (20).
GK reaches into forestry
Forester GK (100 marks) adds plant diseases, zoology and information technology to the Tripura, North-East, flora, fauna, soil and river topics both posts share.
Bengali or Kokborok paper, 40% to pass
A 100-mark language paper at Class 10 level is qualifying only. It is not added to your score, but you need 40% in it. If you did not pick a language, Bengali was assigned by default.
Written first, then physical
Only candidates who clear the written cut-off go to the physical standards check and the walking test. Cut-offs can differ by category.
Walk 25 km in 4 hours
Men must cover 25 km and women 16 km on foot within four hours. Start building walking stamina now, not after the written result.
85% written, 15% interview
The written exam carries 170 marks and the interview 30. The interview can be cancelled or rescheduled without notice.
PRTC is mandatory
You must hold a Permanent Resident Certificate of Tripura. Knowledge of Bengali or Kokborok is desirable.

What is the Forester exam pattern?

How is Forester different from Forest Guard?

Forester needs Higher Secondary and pays Level-7 (Grade Pay Rs. 2,200); Forest Guard needs Madhyamik and pays Level-6 (Grade Pay Rs. 2,100). Forester adds a 30-mark Science section and has 100 GK marks against Forest Guard's 120. The physical test is the same, and you take it once if you applied for both.

What is the physical test?

A walking test: 25 km for men and 16 km for women, within four hours, after a check of minimum height and chest — 163 cm for General and SC men, 152 cm for ST men, 150 cm for UR and SC women, 145 cm for ST women.

What is the eligibility?

Higher Secondary (+2) or equivalent, a Permanent Resident Certificate of Tripura, and age 18 to 40 on 1 May 2026 (SC, ST and government employees get 5 more years). Persons with disabilities are not eligible for this field post.
